This Month in Social Media - September Update

We kept track of the most important changes across 4 major social media platforms, so you don’t have to scroll for hours to stay ahead.

Social media moves fast, and so do the algorithms, features, and trends that shape your brand’s visibility.  Here's the social media updates for September. Bookmark it. Check back often. We’ll keep it fresh.

LINKEDIN

LinkedIn has introduced two new engagement metrics worth paying attention to.

  • Saves show how many people found your post valuable enough to bookmark for later.
  • Sends track how often your post was shared privately in a message—a strong signal that your content resonated enough to be passed on.

These sit alongside LinkedIn’s recent additions - profile viewers, followers gained from a post, custom button interactions, and deeper post analytics via API, giving you a clearer picture of how your content is landing.

LinkedIn x CapCut Integration

LinkedIn has teamed up with CapCut, letting you use CapCut’s video editing tools without leaving the platform. That means it’s now much easier to create and share short-form video content directly on LinkedIn.

Video is fast becoming the go-to format on LinkedIn. This update makes it easier for more people to show up with polished content, and on LinkedIn, showing up consistently is what builds credibility.

FACEBOOK

No major Facebook updates this month. It’s a great tool for community engagement, so keep creating content and engaging.

INSTAGRAM

Instagram is working on a new feature called “Picks”. This will show up next to the “notes” feature and will help users to select and display their favorite songs, movies, books, TV shows etc and share them with their friends.

A user noticed this and posted on X, but this feature has not been released to the public yet, on a large scale.

Instagram has introduced a new interactive chart called "When People Liked Your Reel". It shows the specific moments in a reel where people tapped “like.” Instead of only seeing total engagement at the end, you can now pinpoint exactly which part of your video caught attention.

This level of insight gives creators a clearer picture of what actually connects with their audience. You can use it to identify the hooks, transitions, or creative beats that resonate, and refine your style to create reels that hold attention and encourage interaction.

Carousels are getting the same treatment. With the new "When People Liked Your Carousel" feature, you can see which slide a viewer was on when they decided to like your post. That means you no longer just know how many likes a carousel got, you know which part of the content drove the reaction.

For brands, this takes the guesswork out of carousel design. If you notice people tend to like slides with data visuals, product shots, or storytelling frames, you can double down on those formats. It’s about understanding the exact content within the post that sparks engagement.

Instagram is also updating how it reports distribution. The familiar “Accounts Reached” metric is being phased out in favour of “Views.” Views measure how many accounts have actually seen your content on screen, rather than just being “reached” by it passively.

This is a more honest reflection of visibility. Reach often counted fleeting impressions such as people scrolling past without engaging. Views focus on who actually watched or looked at your content, making it easier to understand how much of your audience is really paying attention.

Instagram is finally coming to iPad after 15 years of waiting. It will be slightly different than the normal Instagram app, where the app will open to reels. Stories will continue to appear across the top of the homepage, and users can switch to a dedicated “Following” tab. This tab makes the experience feel closer to Instagram on mobile, with swipeable feeds of still images, and even the option to view posts in chronological order.

You’ll now be able to pin your own comment on Instagram posts and reels.
